🟣 ABOUT THE NATION
The Nation of Cherut is a self-determined, free and independent community created for and by Melanated Indigenous Peoples around the world. We are reclaiming our right to live freely, live together, live well, and live in peace. Rooted in ancestral principles and human dignity, our mission is to build strong systems that support holistic well-being, cultural preservation, and global unity.
“Cherut” means freedom and liberation. It reflects our commitment to creating a new way of life grounded in care, compassion, community, collaboration, and change.
Our five foundational pillars are:
- Spirituality
- Self-Determination
- Self-Care
- Sustainability
- Solidarity
These guide all our policies, programs, and interactions.
🟣 CITIZENSHIP
Any person of African or Indigenous descent—specifically, those in the Black, Afro-Indigenous, and African Diaspora—can apply to become a citizen.
Citizens gain:
- 🡢 Access to Cherut programs and training.
- 🡢 Invitations to national assemblies, retreats, and summits.
- 🡢 Participation in governance and leadership roles.
- 🡢 Voting rights in national decision-making.
- 🡢 Community support, advocacy, and recognition
Visit www.nationofcherut.org and complete the citizenship application. Applicants may be asked to provide background information, affirm their commitment to the Nation's pillars, and participate in onboarding.
There is no fee to apply for citizenship. Optional fees may apply for physical ID cards or select program participation.
🟣 GOVERNANCE & STRUCTURE
The Nation is led by Her Royal Majesty Queen Shanta Lana Hereford, supported by a National Assembly, Ministers, Ambassadors, Elders, and Citizens who collectively shape and govern our systems.
The Nation of Cherut is a free and independent nation. While we do not yet claim sovereign land in the way traditional states do, we operate under international human rights frameworks and indigenous self-determination principles.

Cherut Farms
A sustainable agriculture project feeding families and building food sovereignty.
Cherut Career Training Center
Workforce and entrepreneurship education to empower citizens with skills for economic independence.
Digital Literacy Programs
Training youth and adults in essential tech skills to bridge the digital divide and unlock online opportunities.
School of Cherut
An Afro and Indigenous Pre-K–12 educational system rooted in cultural pride, leadership, and liberation.
Cherut Ministries
A spiritual space for faith-based guidance, ancestral wisdom, and community healing.
Cherut Clinic of Care
Holistic health initiative offering wellness screenings, education, and care rooted in compassion.
Check our website regularly for open registrations, volunteer opportunities, and program calendars. Some offerings are exclusive to citizens, while others are open to allies and the public.

Yes! We host national assemblies, local meetups, summits, retreats, and workshops throughout the year. Citizens receive early access and special invitations.
Yes, citizens can request to host Cherut events in their cities or communities. Use the “Host an Event” form on our site to submit your idea.
🟣 GETTING INVOLVED
Visit the “Volunteer” section of our website to submit your interest form. Opportunities include farming, digital marketing, youth mentorship, events, and administration.
Yes. While citizenship offers greater access, we welcome non-citizen volunteers and allies who support our mission.

While we are a borderless nation, many of our in-person projects are based in Georgia, USA, and we have partnerships and citizens across the diaspora and in Africa.
